From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
