An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel said materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben went on to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member called the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
